Singer-songwriter John Mayer is known for a lot of things – the good, the bad, the acoustic – but as the seasons are changing, and I find myself checking the grass every day for signs of spring, crocuses, daffodils, heck, green grass, I’m reminded of one of his old songs, Safe Till St. Patrick’s Day.

The lyrics go:

“No way November will see our goodbye

When it comes to December it’s obvious why

No one wants to be alone at Christmas time

And come January we’re frozen inside

Making new resolutions a hundred times

February, won’t you be my valentine?

And we’ll both be safe till St. Patrick’s Day”

I think there’s an element of truth to those words. Winter gives us so many excuses to maintain the status quo. Whether it’s the holidays, the cold, maintaining appearances around family or friends, or just feeling stuck, we can make any excuse for why we stay. But when the sun starts to stay up a little longer, and maybe you only need a sweater or light jacket when you leave the house in the morning, we start to see the bright side of possibility for change. We start to see hope and opportunity where we didn’t (or didn’t want to) see it before.

When we talk about “spring cleaning” we conjure images of packing away sweaters in bins, blowing off dust, replacing heavier things with lighter ones. Why not extend that cleaning to our lives as well? During a recent rummage through my closet, I found myself repeating, “If it doesn’t fit, and you don’t love it, why are you holding onto it?” The same mantra can ring true for more than just old Gap jeans from before everything started being made with Spandex. Something or someone who was a good fit for you before, may no longer be a good fit. It doesn’t mean you’ve failed, or that you’re wrong, just that you’ve changed, and that’s ok.

Our mission is to help people end unhappy marriages and create better lives for themselves and their families. We believe life is best lived happily. We believe in making choices that allow us to feel and be our best. We believe in helping people find their freedom.

St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, but there’s still plenty of time to clean, be it your living room, your closet or your life. You’ve made it through the winter, you did it! With spring comes new growth and new beginnings. We hope that you find yours, and we’re here if you need us.
